Ready, Set, PEEPS!!!

It is time to race!
Ready, Set, PEEPS!

We made these adorable (and yummy) cars out of Twinkies.
We used half of a large marshmallow to make each wheel and a pretzel for the steering wheel.
So simple and fun to make with the kids!

PEEPS on Skateboards!!

My kids and I had so much making these with their friends!
They were so easy to make, we used Vienna cookies, Gummy Life Savers, and a tiny bit of frosting to make the skateboards.

Cereal Glove Turkey

We had some fun today creating our little cereal turkeys! Our turkey's feathers are Fruit Loops cereal. My little guy really enjoyed sorting (and eating) the Fruit Loops! Our turkey's body consists of Cherios and Alphabits cereal. I made the beak and gobble out of foam paper, but you could also use construction paper. I tied the glove closed with a small rubber band and stuck a small circle of cardboard on the bottom to help him stand. He is very colorful and absolutely delish-- Just ask my little guy! These are cute to add to your Thanksgiving table, especially at a child's place setting, and would also make a great Thanksgiving treat for any child!

Pumpkin Rice Krispies Treats

Last week, we had another fun playdate with the kids! We made some adorable Pumpkins out of Rice Krispies! They were almost as easy to make as regular rice krispies treat, but definitely more fun!

Ingredients:

  • Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 Bag of Marshmallows
  • Butter
  • Red & yellow food coloring
  • 18-20 tootsie rolls unwrapped
  • Green Frosting for leaves

Directions:

To make, all you need to do is follow the rice krispies treats recipe on the back of the box. When your marshmallows are nice and melted, add red and yellow food coloring until you reach a pumpkin orange color.

After you stir the rice krispies into the orange marshmallow mixture, spray some cooking spray on the palms of your hands and roll the mixture quickly into balls. I found that I needed to spray my hands between rolling each ball. Place a tootsie roll in the center of each pumpkin and garnish with frosting leaves.

Fun Halloween Treats-- Witch Hats

This is another fun to make (and eat) Halloween treat. These are simple enough for the kids to make. All you need are the fudge stripped graham cookies (I get the ones from the Dollar tree, they taste just as good and are so much cheaper), icing in a tube in your choice of color, and some Hershey Kisses. Flip the cookies over, add a dab of icing in the middle, and stick the kiss onto the icing. These are great for parties and playdates because you can make an entire tray in minutes.

Oreo Cookie Spiders

These Oreo Cookie Spiders are so much fun to make! A pack of Oreo's, some icing(to hold the M&M eyes on), licorice laces, and M&M's and you are on your way to have some fun with the kids!

Fun Food for Halloween-- Mummy Hot Dogs

I love Halloween and I especially love all of the fun foods and goodies that you can make to eat. Mummy hot dogs are one of my kids favorites and they are so easy to make. All you need are some hot dogs and a tube of crescent rolls. Roll out your dough and cut thin long strips out. Wrap them around your hot dogs to give them the mummy look. Put them on an ungreased baking sheet and bake as directed. When they are done, let them cool for a few minutes and add eyes using black cake decorating gel, mustard, or ketchup. Your kids will get a kick out of these!

Crescent Roll Pizza Bites--- Fun For the Kids to Make and Eat!

Looks good, huh? Would you believe me if I said they are as simple as String Cheese, Peperoni, and Crescent Rolls? Well believe it!
I have really been trying to get my kids involved in cooking as many meals as possible, they are really enjoying it. I think it is so important to know how to cook, plus we really enjoy some quality time together while we cook. My kids were absolutely ecstatic when I told them what we were making-- they LOVE crescent rolls and cheese sticks are their absolute favorite snack. They thought it was so cool that we were cooking with cheese sticks!

Only 4 Ingredients :)
Crescent Rolls (I used the big and flaky ones)
Pepperoni Slices
Cheese Sticks, cut in half
Sauce for Dipping

Separate the crescent rolls. Put 2 slices of peperoni and a half of a cheese stick on the wide end of the crescent roll.

Roll them up, starting with the end that has the peperoni and the cheese and place them on an ungreased baking sheet.

Bake them in the oven on 350 degrees for about 11-12 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Eat them as is or serve them with some sauce on the side.
When you bite into them, the cheese is nice and stringy-- YUM!
Enjoy!

What's For Lunch? Red Spaghetti with Butter and Cheese!

I have a playdate scheduled next time that is all about spaghetti and one of the things I am making is Rainbow Colored Spaghetti. For lunch today, I figured I would try it out, but to keep it simple, I only did one color. When my water came to a boil, I added salt and the spaghetti, as I always do, and then squeezed in 10 or so drops of red food coloring. I strained my pasta and served it up with some butter and parmesan cheese. My kids got a kick out of it! They are going to love it when I make the rainbow pasta! Next time, I think I will add a bit more food coloring to make the colors bolder.

What's For Lunch? Hot Dog Squid!

My kids got a kick out of these during lunch time!
My 4 year old said "These are the coolest hotdogs ever! They even taste better than regular hotdogs!" LOL Too cute! It was definitely work the extra couple of minutes to make them!

Starting a little more than halfway down the hotdog, cut it in half lengthwise.

Rotate the hotdog and cut again, cutting the bottom part of the hotdog into 2 parts.

Put the hotdogs in a pot of water and bring the water to a boil.
Prop your little squids onto a plate and serve. You can use ketchup or mustard to give the little guys eyes. Enjoy!

Egg White + Red Cabbage Juice= Naturally Green Eggs!!

Seeing how, I had some leftover red cabbage juice from our Color Changing Magic Potion, I decided to try this out.

All I did was crack an egg and separate the yolk from the egg white.

I added a bit of the red cabbage juice, which is actually a dark purple color,  to the egg white and mixed it well.

There you have it!! Green Eggs!
Perfect for St. Patrick's Day or to go along with the book Green Eggs and Ham!

Brownies in a Mug-- Perfect for the Kids to Bake & the Perfect Chocolate Fix for Mom!

Today, my son and decided that we wanted a special treat. I thought it would be fun to have him  bake his own treat. The biggest problem when we bake is the oven-- it is way too hot for him to "complete" his baking. So today, we used a different appliance to make Brownies-- the Microwave!  We each made an individual batch of brownies in a microwave safe mug and nuked it!
I did the majority of measuring and my son added all of the ingredients and handled all of the mixing.
My son put on his chef hat and apron and got mixing!

In a mug, we added 1/4 cup of sugar...

1/4 of flour...

2 Tablespoons of Cocoa Powder and a pinch of salt.

We mixed it up and then added the wet ingredients...

3 Tablespoons of water and 2 Tablespoons of oil.

Mix it until well combined and it is a smooth consistency.

Put it in the microwave for 1 minute and 40 seconds and you are ready to eat!

After all of his hard work, my son added whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles to his brownie!!
I assure you, he REALLY enjoyed it!!!

This Isn't Just Any Old Grilled Cheese, It's Pizza Grilled Cheese!

My kids and I love grilled  cheese, who doesn't?
This is a spin on grilled cheese and boy is it delicious!!

It is so simple to make, all you need is:

8 slices of bread
¼ cup butter, softened
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder or more to taste
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 package sliced pepperoni
8 slices mozzarella cheese
½ cup grated parmesan cheese
pizza sauce for dipping

In a small bowl mix together softened butter, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
Pre-heat a skillet to medium low heat. Spread the garlic butter over one side of a slice of bread.

Place butter side down in the skillet. Top with a slice of mozzarella cheese, as many pepperoni slices as you want, some parmesan cheese, and another slice of mozzarella. Butter another slice of bread with the garlic butter and place butter side up on top the sandwich.

Cook in the skillet until lightly browned on the bottom and flip over. Continue cooking until the other side has browned and the cheese has melted. Repeat with remaining sandwiches. If desired, serve with pizza sauce for dipping.

(Makes 4 Servings)
