Fun with Color Changing Magic Potion!!

We had a blast with this color changing magic potion!! Not only did we have fun with it, but we learned quite a bit in the process too! Did you know that red cabbage juice is a natural pH indicator?  Well you do now!
 

You will need a cup, Red Cabbage, and white vinegar or lemon juice.

 

First you have to make your red cabbage juice-- Take a few leaves of red cabbage, put them in a pot of water and bring it to a boil.

 

 

Remove the leaves & let the purple potion cool.

When you are ready, pour the purple potion into a glass.

 

 Add lemon juice or vinegar, a little bit at a time.

We used a dropper, but you can just as easily pour it into the cup.

Watch as the color changes to reddish pink color. 

 

 

The more you add, the prettier pink it turns!

To test this further, we added baking soda to the pink potion...

The potion turned purple again!

Magic Fizzing Potion-- The more it fizzes, the more fun it is!

Today we had so much fun experimenting with some "magical potions!" This was so simple to do and I had all of the ingredients on hand.

 

All you need is a cup, vinegar, baking soda, dish soap, and food coloring.

 

 

Fill the cup a third of the way to half way full with vinegar. Add a squirt of dish soap (I used plain Dawn) and a few drops of food coloring.

 

 

Add a heaping teaspoon of baking soda....

 

 

 

Watch as it grows! 

 

 

The bigger it got, the bigger my son's smile got! He kept yelling it's getting bigger and bigger!!

OH GOO!!

OH GOO! We had so much fun today with our Goo! It was so simple to make and my kids played with it for over an hour!! It is so neat how it switches back and forth from a liquid to a solid! Even my 12 year old was amazed with it! It becomes a solid when you squeeze it, but "melts" if you just  lay it in you hand and pours off of your hand like a liquid!

 

All You Need is:

• 16-oz box cornstarch
• water
• food coloring
• bowl

Empty the box of cornstarch into a bowl.
Add 1-1/2 cups of water.
If you would like to color your goo, add about 15 drops of food coloring.
Mix the goo with your hands.
Have fun!

 

 

 

Fizzing Bath Paint

Bath time has always been a favorite for my kids, but lately, we have been taking it to a new level.

We have had many baths with bath paint and a few glow baths with glow paint, I had to come up with something new for bath time today. We made Fizzing Bath Paint today! My boys loved it, it was a hit! It was simple to make and was ready in under 2 minutes.

 

All you need is shaving cream, baking soda, and vinegar. 

 

 

In a bowl, I mixed shaving cream with a lot of baking soda. I didn't measure how much, but it was enough to make a thick paste. I added a little food coloring just for fun.

 

I gave it to the kids to smear on the bath walls along with a spray bottle filled with vinegar.

They loved the idea of spraying it...

 

 

Then we watched and listened as it fizzed.

 

They enjoyed this little bath experiment, I am sure your kids will too!
