Little Dragon Glove Puppet

I made this adorable little dragon glove  puppet to add to our Dragon Sensory Tub that we are working on putting together. I made it using an odd glove that I couldn't find a match for (We ALWAYS have mateless gloves, my children lose gloves like the lose socks!!), felt, 2 buttons, and 2 googley eyes. If you don't have any loney mateless gloves, you can always pick up a set in the dollar store. You should be able to find all of the other items needed in  the dollar store if you don't have them lying around in your house.  I got the pattern for his wings and crest off of Spoonful.com. Once I cut my felt pieces out and sewed them on along with buttons. I used my hot glue gun to glue the googey eyes on.
Now he is all ready for play!
This little glove puppet is an awesome little gift for any little dragon lover! This would also be a great, inexpensive party favor for the kids to take home from a dragon party!

Adorable Felt Bat Stuffies

I made these bats for an exchange I recently participated in. The exchange was for the book Stellaluna, which is a story about a little bat that gets lost and is raised by birds. I figured with Halloween right around the corner, I'd share them. I plan on making some more of these for my son to give to his friends for Halloween. They are adorable and easy to make. I hand sewed them together and they are made from black felt and black pipe cleaners. I used a pattern found on All Things Crafty. My son wanted googley eyes on them instead of buttons, which I ended up really liking. Cute, huh? My son loves his!

Shape Button Snake-- Great for Hand/Eye Cordination!

This a fun and very simple busy bag activity that I put together for my little one. A busy bag, is pretty much exactly like it sounds,  an activity in a bag that will keep a child busy when need be. Some busy bags are educational, others are just fun. Think fun busy work in a bag! My kids have well over 100 busy bags, I keep most of them away, until we need them. I have a huge tote bag full of busy bags in my car for when we go out to eat or have a doctor's appointment. They really come in handy! I even have some that I keep for traveling and long car rides.  This shape button snake is great to help with hand/eye coordination, learning shapes, color recognition, patterning, and learning the basics of buttoning. This busy bag does not cost much to make, it can be made with scraps that you have on hand or you can pick up the items from a craft or dollar store.
Making this busy bag does require a tiny bit of simple sewing, you have to sew a button on to a piece of ribbon and sew the other end of the ribbon to a piece of felt. The rest is simple, just cut shapes out of felt and cut a small opening in the middle of each shape for the button to go through.

Give your child the ribbon snake and have them make the snake eat through each shape.

This activity could easily go along with The Very Hungry Caterpillar too!

While your child plays with this, you can teach them the different colors and the different shapes.
Older children could practice making a pattern with the shapes or the colors as they put them on.
This is a fun and easy way to learn, don't you think?

Sew or No Sew Bandana Apron

My kids have been wanting aprons for the  longest time. Finally, they got them.
This week, I made the simplest and most inexpensive aprons that I've ever made. I picked up my supplies at dollar store and was able to make 2 for $2.00! All you need is a bandana and coordinating ribbon. There is minimal sewing involved, or if you prefer, you can use heat and bond tape.

First, cut your ribbon long enough to wrap it around your waist and tie it in a bow. If you are going to sew, sew the ends so that the ribbon does not fray.
For the no sew apron, use some fray check on the ends so that they do not fray.

Pin the middle of the ribbon on the bandana and sew it on.
If you are using heat and bond tape cut a piece the size of the apron and iron it on to the front of the bandana. Remove the paper backing from the Heat and Bond and center your ribbon on the center of the bandana. Turn ribbon and bandana over to iron together.

Quick and simple, huh?
These were so simple, I made 2 more for swaps that I am participating in on Swap-bot.
I whipped 4 of these up in no time!
