Lorax Craft

We made this cute little Lorax craft with our Dr. Seuss play date last week.
Isn't he too cute?
My favorite thing about this craft is that it uses your child's handprints to make his mustache, which makes it a keepsake as well!

Cat in the Hat Crafts-- His Hat and His Whiskers!

I love Dr. Seuss so when his birthday rolls around in March we play it up big. We have a big Dr. Seuss play date with my play group as well as do crafts and activities at home on our own. This week we focused on the Cat in the Hat. We made a hat out of cardstock and construction paper. The parents did the cutting for the most part and the kids did all of the gluing. We used letter hole punches to put each kid's name in a stripe, this way, everyone would know who's hat was who's. The kids also made the whiskers and a nose to go along with the story.

For the whiskers, we cut one white pipe cleaner in half, crisscrossed them, and glued them to a popsicle stick. We then glued a pop pom on for the nose. Since I wanted them to dry fast and I wanted the kids to be able to make them, we used the craft sized glue dots. Stick one directly on the popsicle stick to stick the pipe cleaners to and then one on top of the pipe cleaners to attach the pom pom nose.

Simple and cute!

These crafts will make a cute addition to our Cat in the Hat literacy basket!

Lorax Felt Board

This little felt Lorax is our newest addition to our felt board! I was overwhelmed at the thought of making it, but it actually was pretty easy to make! I used Google images as a template and got to work. My kids love it! I love the Lorax too, he's so darn cute! Eventually, I think I will make some buildings to go along with it. Who knows, I may even get brave and try one of those little bears!

Thing One Felt Decoration

I love Thing 1 and Thing 2! Not only are they the Cat in the Hat's right hand men, but they are absolutely adorable. I made this to add to the Cat in the Hat Literacy Basket that I am working on for next month, but this would definitely make a cute and inexpensive decoration for a birthday party or baby shower. All I did was make a template out of a Google image, cut the two pieces out of felt, drew the face on with a permanent marker, and hot glued the face onto the hair. Simple, quick, and cute!

Lorax Dotee

Today, I made a Lorax Dotee for a Dr. Seuss Dotee Swap I am participating in on Swap-bot.
A Dotee is a small stuffed doll, usually between 3-6 inches long, that has a face of some kind, a hanger (think ornament), and a "tail" of beads. I recently started making these and they are a lot of fun. I was so excited for the Dr. Seuss swap because there are so many fun characters.  I love the Lorax, he is so cute! I am very happy with the way he came out, isn't he adorable? I plan to make one for my son, but his I will make a stuffed animal instead of a dotee.

If you are interested in making a Lorax Dotee or Stuffed Animal, below is the pattern I used from Fabric.com BLOG.
